The Rosalie Coopman  Music Foundation

The Rosalie Coopman Music Foundation was established in 2022 to support the practice of musical composition. We aim to encourage younger (those under 25) and older (over 40 years-of -age) composers. In 2024 we agreed a partnership with the Trinity Laban Conservatoire in Greenwich, London. Our partnership allows us to support students of composition, while collaborating in the offer of an Award for composition by over 40s, unlike almost all other composition competitions.

40PLUS COMPOSITION COMPETITION 2025

The Rosalie Coopman Music Foundation in partnership with Trinity Laban is delighted to announce Clarinet Sonata for Clarinet and Piano by David Bentley as the winner of the Rosalie Coopman Composition Award 2025. The judges also recommended Helen Caddick and Christof Davis to be awarded the Rosalie Coopman Honorary Mention for Composition 2025.

These works were selected from among a very strong field of 58 submitted works. After careful consideration the shortlisted works were:

Affinity by jack Ballard

Recitative and Aria by Paul Henley

Three Songs After Komitas by Paul Evernden

Sea Dive by Jacqueline Holt

Impulses of Spring by Christopher Beardsley

An Introduction by Lester Hough

Blackslade Down by Chis Williams

Seventh Serenade by Jeanette Rees

Dances to the Vanishing Point by Janet Wheeler

We were extremely pleased with such a wonderful response and  high quality of compositions to this call for works and most sincerely thank all those who entered the competition this year. There were many excellent and solid works but as it always is, impossible to choose or perform all, so please, we would encourage everyone to consider applying again in the future.

The Rosalie Coopman Music Foundation and Trinity Laban wishes all applicants success in your future musical endeavours.  Thanks again for applying. The 40+ Composition Competition 2026 will be announced in the Autumn 2025.
